YEREVAN “NOVOYE VREMYA” PAPER RESTARTS ITS ACTIVITY

28.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The Russian language Novoye Vremya paper will be published again from December 2. As Mediamax was informed in the editorial office of the newspaper, at the initial stage the paper will be weekly. Earlier it used to be published three times a week.
Novoye Vremya suspended its activity on October 14, 2000. The reason was the conflict between the staff of the daily and its owner – President of “21st Century” association Arkady Vardanian who took a radical position towards the Armenian authorities. Journalists of the daily informed that they do not share Vardanian’s such viewpoints and do not want to be his “ideological supporters”. As to Vardanian he said that the staff of the daily refused to cooperate with him under the pressure of authorities.
Arkady Vardanian, who organized an unsanctioned rally on October 30 in Yerevan, demanding the resignation of the President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, is detained by the law-enforcement bodies of the country. -0-
