FINANCE AND ECONOMY MINISTER OF ARMENIA STANDS FOR SPEEDING UP PROCESS OF PRIVATIZATION OF DISTRIBUTIVE POWER NETWORKS

23.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. In 2000, as a result of prolonged parliamentary debates around the privatization of power distributive networks the Armenian state budget did not get a 29 bln drams World Bank credits, the Finance and Economy Minister Vardan Khachatrian said in his interview to Mediamax.
According to Khachatrian it is necessary today to observe the schedule of works of tender commission fixed by the government and to speed up the process of privatization of the nets.
In this regard the Minister stressed the role of agreement between the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Armenian Government on direct sell of 20% of shares of of power distributive networks. The text of the agreement was approved November 22 at the sitting of the government. “This step evidences that the Armenian side is decisive regarding this matter,” the Minister added.
The winner of the tender on privatization of four power distributive networks of Armenia must be announced till February 28, 2001, while the whole process of privatization will be finished in March of 2001.
