Representatives of Poland’s Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartosciowych (PWPW) have signed a contract to supply blank eIDs, biometric passport booklets and document issuance systems to the Republic of Armenia.
The contract agreement follows the Armenian government announcement of the tender to supply the complete system for issuing biometric passports and ID cards in November 2010, Security Document World reported.
Under the terms of the deal, PWPW will implement the digital system for personalization and issuance of biometric passports and biometric IDs. Within the next five years the company will also supply 300,000 secure passport booklets and one million secure polycarbonate card blanks. According to the company, supply of the passport and ID issuance system includes both the supply of the software and the necessary electronic appliances. The central personalization of the documents will take place in Yerevan, with the maintenance services being provided by PWPW in cooperation with its Armenian partner.
This contract builds on previous deals between PWPW and the Republic of Armenia. In June 2011, the company implemented a digital tachograph system and within the next five years it will supply personalized tachograph cards.
PWPW has also supplied Lithuania’s biometric passport system and, since 2010, the company has been producing passport booklets and visas for Bangladesh.
