IRAN HAS CUT OFF ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO NEIGHBORING AZERBAIJAN

30.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Starting from October 27 Iran has cut off electricity supply to neighboring Azerbaijan Republic.
Talking to the Tehran Times, the state-owned Electricity Company Tavanir Deputy Head, Masoud Hojjat, said, “We had issued several warnings to Azerbaijan for the payment of the electricity arrears to our company which amount to $45 million. Tavanir has signed a contract with Azer Energy Company of Azerbaijan for the supply of electricity, but the Azeri company has not paid its dues for the last 30 months. We will resume power supply to Azerbaijan Republic only if it vows to pay us the arrears in the near future,” Hojjat said.–0–
