Warner Bros. has become only the second studio this year to cross the $2 billion mark at the international box office.
According Hollywood Reporter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has earned a dazzing $872 million overseas, becoming not only the biggest Harry Potter film of all time, but also the top film of the year and the third-highest international release of all time.
Other standouts include The Hangover Part II, which beat its predecessor to gross $327 million at the foreign box office, and surprise comedy hit Horrible Blosses, which has grossed north of $35 million and still has many markets to open.
Paramount Pictures International crossed $2 billion in international box office revenues earlier this month.
It’s the fourth time that Warners has reached the milestone in any given year.
“These incredible numbers are a testament to the diverse and powerful mix of films that our studio releases, along with the hard work and insight of our international distributions teams around the world,” Warners president of international distribution Veronika Kwan-Rubinek said.
She noted that the studio has a number of high-profile 2011 releases yet to come, including Steven Soderbergh’s Contangion, Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, George Miller’s Happy Feet, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows and Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve.
