80% OF ARMENIAN POPULATION IS IN POVERTY

23.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “There are a number of economic problems in the state that need to be solved without delay,” Leonid Hakopian, the Armenian Minister for Territorial Management and Urban Construction said to Mediamax.
According to Hakopian some 70% of national property of Armenia belongs to 4.7% of the population, while the shadow economy makes 40% of national economy. Moreover, the Minister emphasized a huge polarization in the society – 80% of the Armenian population is in poverty.
Mr. Hakopian expressed concern over the results of privatization process in the state: “The showings of even 70 out of 7000 of privatized sites do not meet the data on production level of 1990”.–0–
