23.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The leaders of the Armenian opposition permanently force the situation around the Karabakh problem aimed at reaching their political goals.
According to the Caspian Azeri news agency, such a statement was made by the head of Azeri presidential administration for foreign relations Novruz Mamedov while commenting the recent statements by the political opponents of the Armenian President Robert Kocharian.
Last week some of the Armenian politicians, political secretary of the Union of Socialist Forces of Armenia Ashot Manucharian in particular announced that the issue of territorial swap between Armenia and Azerbaijan within the frames of Karabakh conflict settlement is still on the agenda. Moreover, according to Manoucharian, the Speaker of the Armenian parliament Karen Demirchian and Prime Minister Vazgen Sargssyan were killed during the October 27, 1999 act of terrorism because of being opponents of the swap, Manucharian stated.
Novruz Mamedov considers that the rumors on the territorial swap are being raised for forming a wrong idea about the policy pursued by Azerbaijan at the negotiations and thus to pave the way to power for certain forces. According to him during the negotiations between the Armenian and Azeri presidents as well as within the OSCE Minsk group the search of any opportunity for rapprochement of positions is always the prior task. –0–
