THE GOVERNMENT OF ARMENIA AND THE WORLD BANK SIGNED A DECLARATION FOR A STRATEGIC PROGRAM FOR STRUGGLE AGAINST POVERTY

20.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Declaration of new strategic program for struggle against poverty was signed today within the framework of the consultative meeting of donor-organizations and the government of Armenia, which was held in Yerevan.
On the part of the Armenian government the Declaration was signed by the Minister of economy and finance of Armenia Levon Barkhudarian, and the World Bank was represented by World Bank Regional Director Judy O’Connor.
As Levon Barkhudarian said, the highlights of the meeting were questions of forming favorable conditions for business and drawing foreign investments. As the Minister noted, the joint efforts of the government of Armenia and donor-states will be aimed at eliminating obstacles impeding the development of business.
Mr. Barkhudarian also said that the government pays much attention to the business-forum “Investments in Armenia”, to be held in May 2001 in New York with the participation of the World Bank.-0-
