19.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The 2-day consultative meeting of international donors and the Armenian Government began today in Yerevan. Representatives of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, the European Union and other organizations take part in the meeting.
Armenian Premier Andranik Margarian noted in his speech that despite the most serious economic and political consequences of the terrorist act of October 27, 1999, the leadership of the country has been determined in the consistent continuation of the economic reforms. The head of the Armenian Government expressed satisfaction that the World Bank group, responsible for the realization of the program for allocating a regular credit to Armenia for structural reforms – SAC 4, is represented at the meeting.
Andranik Margarian also stated that the government of Armenia intends to finally confirm in November the joint program with IMF for the struggle against poverty.
World Bank Regional Director for Armenia and Georgia, Judith O’Connor noted in her speech that the Armenian economic condition cannot be called impressive today. She gave the following examples to prove her words – the decrease of foreign investments, the increase of emigration from Armenia. -0-
