ARMENIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS DO NOT HIDE THAT TENDER FOR PRIVATIZATION OF POWER DISTRIBUTIVE NETWORKS OF THE STATE HAS A POLITICAL IMPLICATION

11.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “Despite the fact that Armenia and Russia are strategic partners the privatization of power distributive networks of Armenia is an international economic deal and we must be guided by the principles of market relations, Hovaness Hovanessian, the head of the parliamentary commission for Foreign Relations said in his interview to Hayastani Hanrapetoutyun.
According to Hovanessian, all the companies that applied for participation in the tender should have been examined by the selection committee, “where the laws of market act and which must not be politicized.” “The Russian Itera company did not meet the demands of selection committee and does not part in the tender,” parliamentarian Hovanessian said.
At the same time it is a naivety to suppose that the tender has no political implication, Hovanessian said. He also stressed that he as well as some of his colleagues would like to see the Russian company as a winner of the tender. “But we must not oppose the rules of the market,” Hovanessian said.
There are four companies which claim to be an owner of the Armenian power distributive networks: the US AES Silk Road, Swish-Swedish ABB, Spanish Union Fenosa and French Elkectricite de France. –0–
