THE FIRST SESSION OF THE STATE COMMITTEE FOR CELEBRATION OF THE 1700TH ANNIVERSARY OF ADOPTION OF CHRISTIANITY IN ARMENIA WAS HELD IN YEREVAN TODAY

07.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The first session of the state committee for the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of adoption of Christianity in Armenia was held in Yerevan today. President Kocharian was presiding over the meeting, was reported to MEDIAMAX in the press office of the president of the country.
The President noted that the committee is already summing up and co-ordinating the work that has been done. According to him, the state and church committees for the celebration of the 1700th anniversary are working together, being mutually complementary. Robert Kocharian noted that celebration to be held in 2001 is the people’s, the state’s and the church’s holiday. Kocharian stressed the importance to hold all the holiday events on a worthy level and noted that the celebration may become a strong impulse for the spiritual rebirth of the people, which, in its turn, will for sure influence the economic life of the country.
The deputy chairman of the state committee Khosrov Harutiunian said that the year 2001 gives Armenia a perfect opportunity to properly present its cultural-spiritual heritage to the world, and that joint efforts of Armenia and Diaspora are necessary for it. –0–
