04.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. At the court session of the case of the terrorist act against RNK President Khachatur Petrosian, one of the accused, said that on the very first day of the trial RNK ex defense minister Samvel Babayan “advised them to take the whole responsibility for the realization of the terrorist act upon themselves, promising to release them from the jail at any cost”.
As the correspondent of MEDIAMAX reports from Stepanakert, the other accused – Varuzhan Melkumian, David Gulian and Ararat Musaelian – confirmed these statement.
In his turn, Babayan’s lawyer Zhudeks Shakarian asked the court why the legal-medical examination was not carried out to examine the health condition of accused Samvel Babayan, who complained of coercion and drastic medicaments, under the influence of which, as Shakarian said, S. Babayan was not able to control himself and confessed on April 3 organizing the terrorist act.
The ex deputy of the Commander of RNK Defense Army on the home front Armen Abgarian confirmed the fact that a meeting was summoned in summer 1999 in the Defense ministry, where the question of coup d’etate was considered, but he didn’t remember the participants. He said that summing up the meeting, S. Babayan spoke against coup d’etate.
The trial of the case of the March 22 terrorist act against RNK president Arkady Ghukasian started on September 18 in Stepanakert. The main accused of the case is RNK ex defense minister, Lieutenant-General Samvel Babayan. -0-
