28.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “We must do our best to continue the regular work of the Armenian Parliament. To avoid further loss of time we should renew the work of the parliament by extraordinary sessions. The problem is that the Armenian Parliament doesn’t have a speaker and if Armen Khachatrian chairs the session, the work becomes meaningless”. Vice-speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, one of the leaders of the Republican party of Armenia, Tigran Torosian stated this yesterday to the journalists, commenting on the present situation in the Armenian parliament, reports the parliamentary correspondent of MEDIAMAX.
Answering the question, could the return of the president somehow change the formed situation, Torosian expressed hope that “at least this question should be solved by our efforts, without the president’s interference”.
The vice-speaker expressed confidence that in the near future meetings with the president will be held, but “the head of the state won’t be able to have direct intervention in the work of the legislative branch of the country”. -0-
