ARMENIAN EMBASSY IS OPENED IN UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

25.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The official delegation of Armenia, headed by the Foreign Minister of the country Vardan Oskanian, arrived in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 22 to take part in the opening of the Armenian Embassy in UAE, was reported to MEDIAMAX in the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
On the first day of the visit Armenian delegation took part in the official sanctifying ceremony of the Armenian State flag in Grigor Illuminator church, after which Armenian Foreign Minister Oskanian met with the representatives of Armenian communities of Persian Gulf states. They exchanged opinions on social-economic and political situation in Armenia, as well as perspectives of development of Armenian-Diaspora cooperation.
On September 23 Minister Oskanian met with the foreign minister of UAE Rashid Abdallah Al Nuyami. During the meeting the sides discussed the present stage of cooperation between the two countries as well as perspectives of development, in which, the sides said, the Embassy of Armenia will play a significant role. Foreign minister of Armenia presented new approaches in the sphere of tourism and high tech development in Armenia. A number of regional and international questions were also discussed at the meeting. Vardan Oskanian presented to this counterpart the message of the President of Armenia Robert Kocharian addressed to UAE Sheikh Zayed ben Sultan Al Nahayan.
The same day the delegation, led by V. Oskanian, visited the trade-industrial center of Abu-Dhabi and met with its administration. In the course of the meeting trade and industrial potentials of the two countries were presented; the sides also exchanged opinions on development of cooperation in other fields as well. Oskanian expressed willingness of Armenia to receive the trade-economic delegation of UAE this October.
In the evening of September 23 the Embassy of Armenia was officially opened in UAE. Top officials of the ministry of foreign affairs of UAE, foreign diplomats, accredited in UAE, as well as representatives of Armenian communities of Persian Gulf were present at the ceremony. -0-
