ARMENIAN PRESIDENT SAYS THAT THE CONFLICT BETWEEN RNK CIVILIAN AND MILITARY AUTHORITIES WAS INEVITABLE

22.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Events taking place around the terrorist act against RNK president Arkady Ghukasian are actually typical of all the small states, which have faced a severe war, declared the President of Armenia Robert Kocharian in the interview to Russian “Ivzestiya” paper, which was published today.
Kocharian said that the conflict between the president, striving for more free and democratic Karabakh, and the military leadership of RNK was intensified also by the fact that the Karabakh war was won by the Karabakh army, and as a result of it the latter became too powerful, both from political and emotional point.
“The conflict was inevitable, but it was not to be necessarily expressed in such form – a terrorist act against the president. The court is to find out, who is to be blamed , but its clear that the climax of the conflict is already left behind. Let me remind you that analogous events took place in Georgia, Azerbaijan, as well as in some other countries and regions”, said the Armenian President.
The trial of the accused of the terrorist act of March 22 against RNK president Arkady Ghukasian started on September 18 in Stepanakert. The main accused of the case is the RNK ex defense minister, Lieutenant-General Samvel Babayan. -0-
