14.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “At present almost everything is ready to start the trial”, declared in the interview to MEDIAMAX RNK Supreme Court judge Suren Alexanian, who will be the chairman of the upcoming trial of the accused of the attempt upon the life of RNK president, which will be held on September 18 in Stepanakert. RNK ex defense minister Samvel Babayan is charged with the organization of the terrorist act.
According to the Criminal-Procedure Code of RNK all the participants of the process have got acquainted with the case materials of 17 volumes, said Alexanian. General Prosecutor Mavrik Ghukasian and two representatives of the General Prosecutor’s office of the republic will speak as prosecutors.
Stressing that all the 16 accused were provided with lawyers, Suren Alexanian noted that 3 of them have renounced the counsel for the defense, saying they are able to defend themselves at the trial. Mr. Alexanian informed that it’s still under question whether one of the accused, Sasun Aghajanian, will be present at the trial, considering that he is in hospital now. The judge said that medical expertise has been appointed by the court on September 11 for that reason, which is to determine the question of Aghajanian’s participation in the trial.
