THE CONTINUOUS DROUGHT IN ARMENIA CAUSED 40 MILLION DOLLARS DAMAGE TO AGRICULTURE

07.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. As a result of the continuous drought in Armenia, the total harvesting losses will make 40 million US dollars, stated today Armenian Agriculture Minister Zaven Gevorgian at the government session, dedicated to the confirmation of event program for liquidating drought consequences.
The government has foreseen a number of measures to liquidate drought consequences and assist the farmers. In particular, the farmers are to be provided with necessary additional resources.
Premier Andranik Margarian charged the corresponding ministries and departments in 10 days to present to the government suggestions about possibility of using domestic reserves to eliminate drought consequences.
The ministries of foreign affairs and agriculture of Armenia are entrusted to turn to international organizations and diplomatic representatives of foreign countries in Armenia to receive the necessary assistance. -0-
