MOST LIKELY, THE PEOPLE’S PARTY OF ARMENIA IS READY TO RESTORE FULL COOPERATION WITH THE PRESIDENT AND THE GOVERNMENT

07.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The meeting of Armenian President Robert Kocharian and the leader of the People’s Party of Armenia Stepan Demirchian – the son of the speaker of the Armenian parliament K. Demirchian, killed on October 27, 1999, took place in the beginning of September.
Only today the headquarters of the People’s Party of Armenia confirmed this information. It is interesting that the presidential press office didn’t report anything about the meeting either. The headquarters of the People’s Party of Armenia informed that “the political and economic situation in the country” was discussed at the meeting.
Armenian leading mass media are inclined to think that the leadership of the People’s Party has decided to restore normal cooperation with the Republican Party, together with which the “Unity” bloc, having the majority in the parliament, is formed. The Republican Party also takes return steps – one of its leaders, Tigran Torosian, who openly declared about a month ago about the necessity to remove Armen Khachatrian and Gagik Aslanian, representing the People’s Party, from the posts of the speaker and vice-speaker, said today that he thinks the discussion of this question is “untimely”. -0-
