“WE MUST FIND A SOLUTION TO THE KARABAKH CONFLICT WHILE ALIYEV IS STILL IN POWER”, SAID RNK FOREIGN MINISTER TO “THE WASHINGTON POST”

07.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “As it is not clear what will happen in Azerbaijan after Aliyev, we must find a solution to the Karabakh conflict while he is still in power,” – Nagorno-Karabakh Foreign Minister Naira Melkumian was quoted as saying in the issue “Armenia Pins Economic Hopes on Peace” by Michael Dobbs, published in “The Washington Post” on September 6.
The author also quotes Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian as saying that he has proposed a “don’t ask, don’t tell” approach to Azerbaijan, under which Nagorno-Karabakh’s status would be interpreted differently by each side.-0-
