06.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Armenian President Kocharian, who is on a visit in New York, met with Armenian Diaspora businessmen on June 5, was reported to MEDIAMAX in the press office of the president of Armenia.
More than 50 Diaspora businessmen from the USA, Canada and Latin America, top officials of different companies and institutions were present at the meeting.
In his greeting speech Robert Kocharian presented the aim of the meeting: encouragement of investments of Diaspora businessmen in the economy of Armenia, assistance to the development of the Armenian economy, formation of new working places. Noting that the creation of new working places and the development of the economy of Armenia are the main conditions to improve the living standard of the population and to prevent emigration, Robert Kocharian said he would like every Diaspora businessman have economic interest in Armenia. He stressed that stability is again established in the country, and Armenia is ready “to get” investments.
Speaking at the meeting, Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian presented the economic situation in Armenia, perspectives of economic development and the existing obstacles. The Armenian president and Foreign Minister also replied to the numerous questions of the biusinessman.-0-
