IRAN WILL SUPPLY GAS TO TURKEY IN JULY 2001

26.08.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Iranian gas pipelines will start delivering gas to Turkey by July 30 next year, Turkish Energy Minister Cumhur Ersuemer announced in a meeting with the special advisor to the U.S. president on Caspian energy affairs, John Wolf, as IRNA agency reports. He also said that “with imports of gas from Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Turkey intends to meet its demand for natural gas.”
The Iran-Turkey gas agreement, considered for 22 years, was signed in the summer of 1996. IRNA reports that Iran met its commitments on schedule, but Turkey failed to implement the project on its side of the border within the specified time for financial reasons.
Under the 22-year agreement, Iran is to initially export three billion cubic meters of gas annually to Turkey and subsequently increase it to ten billion cubic meters. -0-
