TRIAL CENSUS OF POPULATION WILL BE REALIZED IN A NUMBER OF ARMENIAN REGIONS IN SEPTEMBER

26.08.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. A census of the population will be carried out in October 2001 on the territory of Armenia. To prepare for this, Armenian Government has decided to hold a trial census of population in a number of Armenian regions.
On September 6-15 the trial census will be realized in the town of Spitak in Lori region and a number of villages of Ararat region of Armenia. These works will cost about 100 million drams – the financial assistance for the project will be provided by USAID and UN representation in Armenia.
The question of census of the Armenian population has acquired a pronounced political significance. Speaking of the scales of emigration from Armenia, different political forces assert that for the past years from 1 to 1.5 million Armenian citizens have left the country. -0-
