ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT WILL HAVE A NEW CHAIRMAN IN FALL, DECLARED VICE-SPEAKER TIGRAN TOROSIAN

17.08.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “It will be a misunderstanding if the representatives of “Unity” faction keep the leadership in the parliament and government after the People’s party has left “Unity”, declared today in the interview to “Golos Armenii” paper Tigran Torosian, Vice-speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, one of the leaders of the Republican party.
The Speaker of the parliament Armen Khachatrian and Vice-speaker Gagik Aslanian are members of People’s party. “Unity” faction, which has the majority in the parliament, comprises representatives of People’s and Republican parties, between which serious disagreements have developed. On August 16 Tigran Torosian declared that the existence of “Unity” can be talked about at a stretch.
“Opposition can’t have the lion’s share among parliament leaders and at the same time be presented in the government by its ministers”, stressed Torosian. -0-
