27.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The foreign minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian and the deputy Secretary General of NATO on political affairs, Ambassador Dr. Klaus-Peter Klaiber, who is on a working visit in Yerevan, exchanged opinions today on the possible establishing of a regional security system in the South Caucasus. Mr. Oskanian presented Armenia’s position in this matter.
As was reported to MEDIAMAX in the press service of the ministry of foreign affairs of Armenia, Armenian foreign minister presented to the deputy Secretary General of NATO the current stage of the Karabakh peace settlement and the possible developments of this process. The interlocutors also discussed other regional conflicts.
Klaus Klaiber informed about the course of settlement of Balkan conflicts, and, generalizing his experience, noted that any opposition can be settled only with good will and readiness for mutual concessions of all the involved sides.
The interlocutors also discussed questions on the forthcoming visit of the NATO Secretary General to Armenia in September 2000. Questions on the cooperation of Armenia and NATO within the “Partnership for Peace” program framework were given a detailed discussion.
The sides also discussed a wide range of questions on bilateral relations between Armenia and Turkey, Armenia and Russia, Russia and NATO. -0-
