DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL OF NATO REFUSED TO VISIT THE MEMORIAL TO THE VICTIMS OF THE GENOCIDE OF ARMENIANS AS IT WASN’T INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM OF THE VISIT

27.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Today is the first working day of the visit of the deputy Secretary General of NATO on political affairs, Dr. Klaus-Peter Klaiber in Armenia.
Today morning Klaus-Peter Klaiber visited the Museum of the Genocide of Armenians of 1915. He refused the suggestion of the director of the museum, Lavrenti Barseghian to visit also the Memorial to the victims of the Genocide, located nearby, as “it wasn’t included in the program of the visit”.
The deputy Secretary General of NATO noted that in Yerevan he will discuss questions of Armenia’s more active participation in several programs of the North Atlantic alliance. At the same time he disagreed that Armenia falls back from the countries of the region in the matter of cooperation with NATO. -0-
