NO NEW SUGGESTIONS ON THE KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT WERE PUT FORWARD DURING MY VISIT TO THE USA, SAID THE MINISTER OF DEFENSE OF ARMENIA

27.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “I have discussed the Karabakh issue settlement in the State Department of the USA, but no new proposals were put forward by the American side”, declared the minister of defense of Armenia, the Secretary of the Security Council at the president, Serzh Sarkisian, who returned from the United States late in the evening on July 26.
“The U.S. officials think that the 907th amendment to the “Liberty support Act” impedes the development of the Armenian-American military relations”, said Serzh Sarkisian. According to him, despite the fact that this amendment is judicially directed against Azerbaijan, the leadership of the U.S. military department adhere to the opinion that the document impedes the Armenian-American military relations proceeding from political reasons.
“I expressed my gratitude to the U.S. minister of defense, as he, being a senator in 1990, was the co-author of the document on recognition of the Armenian genocide, and in 1993, thanks to his efforts, the 907th amendment was adopted”, noted Serzh Sarkisian.
Mr. Sarkisian also informed that the deputy minister of defense of the USA G. Star is expected to visit Armenia in autumn. -0-
