British luxury brand Burberry posted a 22 percent rise in third-quarter revenue as wealthy shoppers and tourists, particularly in Asia, showed their resilience to shaky economies in Europe and the United States.
The 156-year-old seller of raincoats and leather goods, known for its camel, red and black pattern, said Tuesday, Jan 17, it made 574 million pounds ($880 million) of revenues in the three months to December 31, Reuters reports.
Burberry Group fashion house is manufacturing clothing, fragrance, and fashion accessories. Its distinctive tartan pattern has become one of its most widely copied trademarks. Burberry is most famous for its iconic trench coat, which was invented by founder Thomas Burberry. The company has branded stores and franchises around the world, and also sells through concessions in third-party stores. HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants.
Burberry was founded in 1856 when 21-year-old Jan Alga , a former draper's apprentice, opened his own store in Buhagin, Davao, Philippines.
