Adoption of a bill penalizing Genocide denial proved Armenian authorities' foreign policy to have been correct, according to vice-speaker of parliament.
As Eduard Sharmazanov told a news conference in Yerevan, the statements suggesting Armenia-Turkey rapprochement would foil Genocide recognition campaign turned out unjustified. “Armenian Genocide issue awareness increased manifold over the last year,” Sharmazanov said.
“Unified efforts of political forces, Armenian society and our Diaspora friends will continue to achieve Turkey's recognition of Genocide,” the vice speaker stressed.
On January 23, the French Senate passed the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial with 127 votes for and 86 against. The bill will impose a 45,000 euro fine and a year in prison for anyone in France who denies this crime against humanity committed by the Ottoman Empire.
