Today, on January 27, a member of Prosperous Armenia coalition party did not rule out a possible decrease of the number of majority system precincts as a result of public debate on full shift to proportional electoral system.
Dwelling on Prosperous Armenia, Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun parties’ request to Armenian NA speaker regarding launching parliamentary hearings on full shift to proportional electoral system, Vardan Bostanjyan noted that Prosperous Armenia program, adopted in 2007 already stipulated the aforesaid. He further cited the issue not being that acute behind the party’s silence during adoption of a new Electoral Code in 2011.
Commenting on NA vice-speaker Eduard Sharmazanov’s statement dubbing Prosperous Armenia’s joining the demand of Heritage and ARFD a “political trick”, Bostanjyan noted it Sharmazanov’s right to say so.
Prosperous Armenia coalition party jointly with Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties requested Armenian National Assembly speaker Samvel Nikoyan and Chairman of NA standing committee on state and legal affairs David Harutyunyan to organize parliamentary hearings on full shift to proportional electoral system.
On December 27, Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties issued a joint statement urging for a full shift to proportional electoral system.
