The Caucasus is a yoke for Russia. As reported by “Rosbalt” agency leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky said when addressing a Moscow meeting against the war in Iraq. In his words, the Caucasian republics – Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan – “should be separated from Russia by a wall.” “We need to isolate from the south just like Israel from Palestine,” – Zhirinovsky emphasized. He supposes that the course towards strengthening the national self-consciousness in these republics “first led to the collapse of the USSR, and then to inter-ethnic conflicts within the contemporary Russia.” The party leader proposed strengthening the visa regime with the states of the Caucasian region to have “less Asiatic people” in Russia.
