According to the poll conducted by the European Friends of Armenia, 33% of the respondents perceive leader of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), current RA President Serzh Sargsyan as a presidential candidate in 2013 and only 12 % of the poll participants view head of the Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan in the post, with confidence level for Tsarukyan exceeding that for Sargsyan. Prosperous Armenia leader remains the political figure to enjoy greatest popularity: 52% of the respondents. In October 2010, according to the poll conducted by the organization, it comprised only 20%. Serzh Sargsyan is the second, enjoying 46%popularity.
The poll consisted of about 21 questions about political preferences of the voters, inaccuracy, according to organizers totaling about 2.4%
The number of respondents totaled 1600 people in Yerevan and throughout Armenia. The poll was conducted jointly with Institute for Political and Sociological Consulting and TNS international organization.
The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about the elections and public attitudes towards politics, political parties and their leaders, foster effectiveness of debates, enhance public transparency and trust in a realistic picture of political life in Armenia, boost efficiency of international observers’ activity through providing them with accurate information on the situation in the country.
