Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan has filed a second lawsuit against National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, demanding a public apology. The information comes from the official judicial portal datalex.am .
Kocharyan claims that Simonyan published false and baseless statements on his Telegram channel that harmed his dignity and reputation, according to Sputnik Armenia.
He is asking the court to require Simonyan to issue a retraction and publish an apology on both his Telegram channel and Facebook page.
The requested apology text reads: “In the past, I made insulting remarks against former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, aimed at defaming his honor and dignity. I regret this and would like to apologize to Robert Kocharyan.”
On June 14, it was revealed that Kocharyan had already filed a lawsuit against both Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Alen Simonyan, demanding public apologies and retractions for false and defamatory remarks. He is seeking 6 million drams in damages from Pashinyan and 9 million from Simonyan for non-material harm.
In response, Simonyan sarcastically questioned on his Telegram channel why Kocharyan had not sued him over comments suggesting that the ex-president is illiterate and holds the status of a spy.
