Deputy Speaker urges seizing historic chance for peace

At the opening of the 108th NATO Parliamentary Assembly Rose-Roth seminar in Yerevan, Armenian Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan declared that Armenia is ready “today” to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey and open the borders.

“Our dialogue with Turkey continues, and we are convinced that this historic opportunity to build good-neighborly relations must not be missed. Normalization will bring stability and prosperity to our region, and also strengthen global security by showing that long-standing conflicts can be overcome through dialogue and diplomacy. We hope Turkey responds to our readiness as soon as possible. We are ready for it today,” Rubinyan said, Pastinfo reported.

He stressed that Armenia now has a unique opportunity to overcome past conflicts and build a peaceful, cooperative future, calling it “unacceptable” to let such a chance slip away.

Rubinyan also referred to the Washington Declaration, which emphasized the need to open communications for peace and prosperity. He highlighted the U.S.–Armenia Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity project, which will be implemented in Armenia.

“This initiative is more than an infrastructure project—it is a bridge of trust and cooperation that will yield tangible results across the entire region,” he noted.

On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration at the White House. In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also initialed an agreement on peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in the presence of the leaders.
