Turkish MP: peace talks benefit all Caucasus

Speaking to reporters during the 108th NATO Parliamentary Assembly Rose-Roth seminar in Yerevan, Turkish representative Fatma Aksal said a new page is opening in relations between Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

“We welcome the launch of the peace agreement process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I believe all countries will benefit from peace, because it is important not only for individual states but for the entire South Caucasus. If peace is achieved, it will spread across the world,” Aksal told Pastinfo.

Addressing the prospect of opening borders, she noted that there are already direct flights between Armenia and Turkey, and the goal is to expand them. “We hope the border opening will happen soon. We already have flights, and now we are trying to add more routes to Turkey.”

She expressed confidence that an Armenia–Azerbaijan peace agreement could serve as a positive example for other regions as well.

Asked about Turkey’s role in closing the border and when it might reopen, Aksal replied that dialogue is ongoing. On whether normalization with Azerbaijan is a precondition, she said: “Armenia has a good opportunity to establish peace. We have no specific conditions for opening the border. Dialogue is taking place, and we hope everything will be resolved.”

Delegations from Turkey and Azerbaijan are also attending the NATO seminar in Yerevan.
