On September 22, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs discussed amendments to the Law on the Probation Service. The bill was presented by Deputy Justice Minister Gevorg Kocharyan, Armenpress reported.
Kocharyan explained that currently, years of service in other state structures are not counted when employees transfer to the probation service, unlike other security agencies. “For example, when someone moves from the police to the probation service, their prior years of service were not taken into account when granting ranks,” he noted.
The amendment seeks to address this gap by allowing prior service to be recognized.
The draft also introduces a new provision: as an incentive, probation officers may be awarded a rank one step higher than their current position would normally allow, except for the rank of colonel of justice.
Co-rapporteur MP Lilit Minasyan welcomed the initiative and urged support. The committee issued a positive conclusion, recommending that the bill be included in the agenda of upcoming plenary sessions.
The bill was reviewed in first reading.
