Francois Roelants du Vivier: law on criminalization of Armenian Genocide denial needs to be adopted in Belgium

Belgian politician Francois Roelants du Vivier said that democratic societies should not forget that millions of Armenians have been annihilated early in the 20th century only because of their ethnicity.

“Of course, the Belgian Senate adopted a resolution on the Armenian Genocide recognition in March 1998, but today a necessity is observed in our country to adopt a relevant law on this tragedy prevention,” he told the international conference “The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, condemnation and elimination of consequences” in Yerevan.

“I strongly believe that the day will come, when western democratic societies will adopt sanctions envisaging punishment for genocide denial,” said Vivier.
