New OSCE PA rapporteur on Nagorno Karabakh to be appointed at OSCE PA winter session

Head of the Armenian delegation to the OSCE PA Aram Safaryan said that a new OSCE PA rapporteur on Nagorno Karabakh and Georgia will be appointed during the OSCE PA winter session due February 24-25 in Vienna.

Safaryan reiterated that former OSCE PA rapporteur Goran Lenmarker was not reelected during parliamentary elections in Sweden in September 2010. Thus, he is no longer a member of the OSCE PA, Safaryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

“OSCE PA President Petros Efthymiou should announce the new rapporteur’s name. The Armenian delegation would like an influential politician, unbiased person and honest mediator to be appointed to the post. We know that the Azerbaijani delegation is going to achieve public discussion of the Karabakh conflict in the OSCE PA. We have numerously stated that Armenia has enough arguments and agreed approaches for a response to Azerbaijan,” said Safaryan.

He added that early in 2011 Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, probably with consent of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, stated it is inexpedient to transfer the constructive activity of the OSCE Minsk Group into public debates.

“I treat the statement with understanding, but if the Azerbaijani side again starts straining the situation in the OSCE PA, the Armenian delegation will react respectively,” concluded Safaryan.
