Azerbaijan in need of blackmailing; frontier incidents part of the policy

The presidential statement in Sochi is a result of consolidated pressure of OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs while Russia was given carte blanche by the U.S. and France, according to the Caucasus Institute director.

As Alexander Iskandaryan told a news conference in Yerevan, the removal of snipers from the line of contact is hardly possible at present, yet there’s clear intention to solve the problem.

“Azerbaijan has a political need in blackmailing, and whatever is happening on the line of contact is a part of that need. Still, logic says there’s a long way till Karabakh conflict is settled. Armenia is dissatisfied with Azerbaijan’s concessions and vice versa,” the expert said.

At the same time, Iskandaryan characterized the unchanged gas tariffs and statement in Sochi as part of Armenia’s foreign policy, rather than domestic one. “Russia is working with the authorities representing Armenia at the moment,” he stressed.
