Sardarapat movement: U.S. rules Armenian opposition

Member of Sardarapat movement Zhirayr Sefilyan said that the recent changes in the behavior of the Armenian opposition, including the attempt of the Armenian National Congress to establish a dialogue with the authorities are dictated by the West, specifically, the United States.

“Reshuffles in the opposition field should be viewed as a process dictated and controlled by the West, specifically, the U.S.,” Sefilyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

He urged the ANC, the most influential opposition force, to refrain from getting involved in a dialogue with the authorities. “Any result gained through an agreement with the authorities will not be advantageous for the people,” said Sefilyan.

He noted that the ANC should reject the intention to unite all political forces around itself, as well as its slogan ‘Levon [Ter-Petrosyan] – President!’

According to Sefilyan, slogans should unite people, while a great part of the population opposed to the authorities is also against the candidacy of Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

Sefilyan thinks that the opposition forces should coordinate their efforts in the struggle against the current authorities rather than unite around some persons.
