PSAA calls for pardon for imprisoned participants in March 1, 2008 events

President of the Political Science Association of Armenia (PSAA), Dr. Hayk Kotanjyan issued an address of PSAA to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, urging him to grant an amnesty to the imprisoned participants of the March 1, 2008, events.

“The Armenian President’s decision to grant an amnesty will be a responsible step worthy of the head of the state intended to stimulate the internal political dialogue among all interested groups of society, to reach a pan-Armenian consensus about priorities of the Armenian national security and sustainable democratic development through consolidation of people’s efforts.

This initiative to transform domestic political conflict into a proper political competition implies a division of responsibilities regarding the destiny of our national state between the President of Armenia and all political powers, which is a necessary step intended to consolidate the nation in the procedure of productively ensuring the development and security of the Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, especially in the context of the threat of war from Azerbaijan.

The amnesty may serve as a basis for consolidation of Armenian and pan-Armenian progressive patriotic forces to use their powerful contribution in the name of constructive political cooperation intended to stimulate systemic and democratic reforms in the Republic of Armenia.

Your decision to grant an amnesty to those detained for the events of March 1, 2008 will be an expression of goodwill and contribute to the development of our country with the help of consolidating national efforts,” the address reads.
