Participants of a protest action, held in the US city of Fresno, demanded that Speaker of the House of Representatives Dennis Hastert (R-IL) and Senate Majority leader Bill Frist (R-TN) specify the terms of vote on the Genocide Resolution (193). As reported by the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), D. Hastert stated, “the issue can have its consequences at the international level and one should work with the State Department and White House in that direction.” As noted by the ANCA, if the Speaker of the House does not appoint the day of the vote on the resolution, by the turn of the year it will lose its force. It should be reminded that Res. 193 marks the 15-th anniversary of the US use of the Convention on Mass Crimes against Humanity, where the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey is mentioned.
