“A small” contingent of Turkish military personnel was moved to the territory of North Iraq to fulfill police functions on the Turkish-Iraqi frontier. As reported by “Novosti” Russian agency, British Secretary of State for Defense Geoff Hoon told journalists today. In his words, it is a limited contingent and the issue will be kept under control. As reported by British media yesterday, Iraqi Kurdistan considers any leading of Turkish troops to the north of Iraq as a real threat of another conflict within the unleashed war against Iraq. As stated by an official representative of the Iraqi Kurdistan leadership, it only counts on US assistance. In case of unavailability of such aid, they will rely on Kurdish fighters in protection of their interests.
