OPENING ARMENIAN-TURKISH BORDER IMPORTANT FOR REGIONAL STABILIZATION

The opening of the Armenian-Turkish border is important for stabilization of the situation in the region, European Commission President Romano Prodi stated in the course of a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan in Brussels. As reported by Sabah Turkish newspaper, in the course of the meeting, the agenda of which also included the topic of Armenia, R. Prodi noted that although the opening of the border with Armenia is not a precondition for Turkey’s accession to the European Union, problems with Armenia “can show up in the course of the process of Turkey’s accession to the EU.” In his turn R. Erdogan noted that Turkey works for retaining good neighborly relations with neighbors.
