NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN ALIYEV AND US LEADERSHIP FORM NEW BASIS FOR KARABAKH SETTLEMENT, US AMBASSADOR TO AZERBAIJAN CONSIDERS

The recent talks between Azeri president Heydar Aliyev and the US leadership form a new basis for the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. US ambassador to Azerbaijan Ross Wilson said yesterday, “Arka” agency reports. At the same time he noted the new opportunities could be realized only after the presidential election in Azerbaijan. In the ambassador’s words, the international community is now worried with the Iraqi problem, which does not mean the interest towards the Nagorno Karabakh settlement has declined. “The situation in Nagorno Karabakh is unstable and continues representing danger,” – he said emphasizing that “new steps aiming at the problem solution can be made with the help of the OSCE Minsk group.”
