The Democratic Party of Azerbaijan held a many-thousand procession meeting in Baku demanding to create conditions for the return of party chairman Rasul Guliyev to the fatherland. He had been forced to emigrate and lives in the US since 1996. The main slogans of the action, as reported by “Arminfo” agency, were “Guliyev – to fatherland, Aliyev – to prison,” “Free, fair, democratic elections,” “Resignation.” The party leaders condemned the Azeri authorities for “the economic and political crisis in the country.” In the public speakers’ opinion, the holding of free elections in the country and the elimination of corruption will be possible only after Guliyev’s return to the native land. The meeting resolution demands to cease persecution of Guliyev and to create conditions for his participation in the coming presidential elections.
