Armenian authorities are not surprised at opposition refusal to accept the results of the presidential election. As reported by “Mediamax” agency, Serge Sargsian, chief of the electoral headquarters of presidential contender Robert Kocharian, told journalists today. He noted opposition leaders had declared their intention to appeal against the returns of the coming elections in Armenia a few months ago. Moreover, in his words, on the eve of the election second round proxies and electoral commission members representing Stepan Demirchian’s interests, “were instructed by their leadership to challenge the returns at each polling station.” However, as emphasized by S. Sargsian, “for many proxies of Stepan Demirchian the truth appeared to be more valuable.” The opposition has a right to appeal against the election returns within the limits of the law, but if it decides to go beyond it, the law-enforcement bodies of Armenia have all capacities for keeping stability in the country, the electoral headquarters head said.
