Vartan Oskanian returned more money to Civilitas Foundation than he actually received from Huntsman Building Products company, the ex-foreign minister’s attorney stated.
“This fact is explained by exchange rate fluctuations. Huntsman transferred $1,42 million onto Oskanian’s account, while Oskanian returned $1,556 million to Civilitas,” Tigran Atanesyan told journalists.
According to international law expert Nikolas Kuyumjyan, the money laundering case against Oskanian, launched the next day after Prosperous Armenia refused to join the ruling coalition could be interpreted as a certain message by the authorities.
“There’s no proof the crime was actually committed, with the investigation having failed to even talk to Huntsman company representatives,” the expert said.
As he noted, submitting the case to international organizations’ consideration will be discussed in the days to come.
