The developments in Kyrgyzstan were not surprise for Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a joint press conference with the Armenian leader in Yerevan today. This was the outcome of the weakness of the authorities and the accumulated social and economic problems in the country. At the same time, the Russian President noted that it is worth regretting that once again political issues are being decided no by legal means, but are accompanied by pogroms and casualties in one of the countries of the post-soviet space. «I count very much on leaders of the Kyrgyz opposition to take control of the situation as soon as possible. We know these people well,» Vladimir Putin noted, adding that having working in authority and administrative bodies for several years, they have in every way promoted relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, and they have done much to establish today’s level of inter-state relations. «I hope for our relations to develop along the same vector, i.e. for the welfare of the peoples of the two countries. There are all grounds for it and the latest statements of the opposition leaders confirm that this course of development of our relations is quite possible. In his turn Russia does it best to maintain the level of the inter-state relations and to promote relations between the two peoples, he added. As of the possible arrival of Askar Akayev to Russia, Putin noted, “if he wishes to arrive in Russia, we will not object. I suppose it is quite possible.”
