WASHINGTON CONCERNED OVER PRE-ELECTION SITUATION IN AZERBAIJAN

Today US State Department representative Jovanna Prokopovich spoke out with a statement expressing anxiety over the pre-election situation in Azerbaijan. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, the Central Election Committee refusal to register candidates from the opposition for participation in the coming presidential election and the arrests of their supporters are specifically noted in the statement of the US External Policy Department. “We are seriously concerned about the violence used by the Azeri authorities and call them to stop persecution of opposition leaders and their adherents”, – State Department representative stated.
