SECOND ROUND OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN ARMENIA TO BE HELD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, ROBERT KOCHARIAN STATED

The second round of the presidential elections in Armenia will be held under any circumstances. Incumbent Armenian president Robert Kocharian said at a meeting with journalists today. In his words, all these issues are subject to regulation by the Constitution of Armenia. Commenting on a number of conditions put by the electoral headquarters of Stepan Demirchian for their candidate’s participation in the elections, R. Kocharian stated, “I am not going to persuade anyone to participate in the presidential elections.” The state head noted that after the first round the opposition resorted to “hysteric moves,” specifically, some opposition representatives addressed meetings with aggressive statements on “seizing power by force.” The president was surprised with the fact that “the state highest post is claimed by such irresponsible people, who spread false data on the returns of the vote, make anti-constitutional calls and heave the people.” “Who will account for the possible consequences of that?” – R. Kocharian said.
